11 Best Korean BBQ (Singapore): Top Places for a Satisfying Grilled Meat Fix

Top Brands Admin

With the growing interest in Korean pop culture, people in most parts of the world are craving to have a taste of authentic Korean dishes. In Singapore, the mix and matching style K-BBQ, locally known in Korea as Gogi-Gui, has become one of the most trendy and hip ways to dine.

A Delicious History

Tracing back to the Goguryeo era, what people know now as Bulgogi or marinated grilled beef, was a simple pre-salted skewered meat dish called Maekjok. The people who lived in the said era are called Maek, while Jeok means skewer. Through different eras in the history of Korea, the meat dish has also evolved into different names, varieties, and styles.

It became Seoryamyeok at some point, a brothy marinated beef soaked in cold water. Later on, in the Joseon era, the meat dish became a royal meal called Neobiani – a dish made from thick, flat, and wide slices of meat grilled over a charcoal fire.

What is Banchan?

Koreans believe that the rise of Buddhism during the mid-three Kingdom period that led to the banning of meat played a huge role in the rise of vegetable-based dishes in Korean culture. The ban ended during the Mongol invasion, but six centuries of vegetarian culture remained to be a major part of Korean cuisine. Although controversial for some, Korea’s rich and meaningful history gave birth to a festive yet healthy way of eating grilled meats.

In recent times, whether it has kimchi, spring onion pancake, ssamjang (spicy sauce), steamed egg, or fishcakes, the Korean BBQ meal isn’t complete without a “banchan” or a set of side dishes to compliment your Bulgogi, Samgyeopsal, or Dak Bulgogi

Customer Reviews

Lots of meat and cooked food options. Among my favorites were the wings, korean pancake, beef ribs, tteokbokki. Food is served on your table so not able to choose which part we want. We had a reservation on Saturday lunch which is a good thing cause the restaurant was packed. Good value for money if you are a heavy eater.” – Tricia Mesin

“Due to covid it’s ala carte buffet now so no photo or video of the food spread. Tried a random artistic rendition of a bbq with rolled up beef, enoki mushrooms and pumpkin. Love it with lettuce, daikon and kimchi in one bite.  Enjoyed the Korean fried chicken wings. Love the marinated Korean fried chicken wings meat and very nice coating of sauce. Decided to end the meal with a yam popsicles today!” – Trotting Horse

Customer Reviews

“Probably the best Korean BBQ I have had in recent times both in terms of food quality and services! I must really compliment the restaurant staff for being so professional and friendly despite their crowd! Kudos! Will definitely visit again soon.” – Kenneth Lee

“Popular BBQ spot in Tanjung Pagar. They offered a set menu, but we discovered that it may be too big for 2 ppl (it was HA phase). We ordered the alacarte. The dishes were fantastic – the staff service were mixed – but cant blame them since they had to run from table to table to help BBQ all their meats. Some staff were friendly and engaging while some just wanted to get the work done. Kimchi Pancake is recommended – side dishes recommended. Will come again!” – Adrian S

Customer Reviews

“Pretty nice place for Korean BBQ. But pretty crowded though. Be prepared to queue for quite awhile during peak dining timing. They served delicious meat. We ordered beef , pork skirt , pancake and some other dishes. Spreading the egg around the sides of the grill was something new to me. But tasted well though. I recommend to eat the meat straight off the grill while it’s still hot to enjoy the tender and prime cut in all it’s glory. Their thick and chewy pancake had a crispy exterior, with a fluffy mochi-like interior. Their bouncy and chewy japchae is a great accompaniment to the grilled meats.” – David Wee

“Appointment was made online. Pretty easy and the staff did as for contact number for confirmation. The place was quite cozy only thing is parking is a problem. We ordered the pork belly both plan and spicy. The plan pork belly was good. But my friend like the spicy one more. The cold noodles was good and I enjoyed it. Customer Reviews

“Searched for authentic Korean BBQ places and this place appeared. Reminded me of the time when my family and I had Korean BBQ at a non-touristy part of Korea. Seated around circular metal table with a smoke extractor in the middle above, we grilled our meats on a hot plate heated by charcoal. The hot plate also interestingly has a “moat” around it and the staff there would pour a liquid egg mixture into it. Half of it just that egg mixture, the other half with sweet corn in it. Ordering is simple, with the dishes grouped in packages for convenience. Service was prompt, but the banchan variety could be more. Ambience was great and a must try is their pancake.” – Vincent Luo

Customer Reviews

“We’re not great fans of Korean cuisines but this is certainly the best Korean restaurant for us in Singapore. We (3) absolutely had a feast (which is clear from the pictures), and loved every item. Maybe we have gone to all the wrong places in Seoul, because we think this is better than many we have tried in Korea. We should not be too long away from the next visit.” – Leon Kwang

“Changs has great ambience and service despite the price tag. It is definitely on the high side for korean bbq but you never stink of smoke after and its a spacious place to enjoy a sunday dinner. Food is tasty and the bbq is well attended by the servers. Plenty of condiments and dipping sauces. I will say though that there doesnt seem much recognition for loyal and regular customers. It is quite a cold and clinical place but perhaps we are all expecting too much. If they were nicer to their regulars, im sure they would get 5 stars.” – Jeremiah Y

Eight unique flavors rolled in Porky goodness – that’s what 8 Korean BBQ is all about. Impressive? That’s not all. Their pork isn’t just the average pork from other Korean bbq restaurants. Known as Mangalitza Hog, this rare kind of pig is a lot like beef. It has a higher level of zinc, copper, iron, and oleic acid, making it a healthier option compared to average pork.

8 Korean BBQ also has Grass-fed Beef, Japanese Wagyu, US Prime Beef and also offers seafood like Korean Grilled Squid Cooked with Butter and King Prawn.

Menu Highlights

  • Flower Pork Set
  • Korean Griled Squid
  • Grass Fed Beef

Customer Reviews

Great experience at 8 Korean BBQ. The Hungarian pork used is likened to the Iberico pork or the “Kobe beef” of pork. I can understand why, with each piece of the meat, you can taste the extra marbling compared to usual pork. We like it that the staff helped us grill the meat..  so that we can just relax and eat and not worry about the cooking. Free flow beansprouts, kimchi and veggies always a plus – first time I experience beansprouts and kimchi on the hotplate too. Interesting!!” – K Ho

Although Nanta Korean BBQ positions itself as a restaurant that offers a modern Korean culinary experience, the traditional way of grilling meats is still on top of their priority. Aside from their pork shoulder marinated to perfection, this restaurant is remembered for their Kimchi-jjigae. Packed with chewy slices of beef, mushrooms, spam, vegetables, and sausages, the rich and flavorful soup of their Kimchi Stew is invigorating.

Customer Reviews

The lunch sets are really good value. We had the soybean stew ($13.90) and the beef bulgolgi ($15.90). The former was thick and tasty though I wouldn’t choose the pork to go with it – thick pieces of pork belly but a tad too tough for me. The latter came in a generous heap of salty-sweet, thinly sliced beef. Sides were generous (beansprouts, kimchi, scrambled egg, fishcake and potato strips).” – Isabel
